Just WHO is National Jewelry Replacements?

As our name states National Jewelry Replacements (NJR) was originally all about working with homeowners insurance companies. Whenever a homeowner has a loss of an article of jewelry their insurance company may pay all or part of whatever it will cost to replace that item. We have been working with insurance companies since 1994 coordinating the valuation and payment for or replacement of jewelry that is covered by homeowners insurance.

This is a service that benefits both the insurance company and the homeowner who has experienced the loss of or damage to their jewelry. In order for the insurance adjuster to pay the claim they need to know what that item would cost today. And, the jewelry owner wants to be certain they are fairly compensated for their jewelry. They want to know their jewelry can be replaced with a new item that is just as nice as the one they lost.

This is not as easy as it sounds. Most people do not know, or have detailed records with all the specifics about each piece of jewelry they own. And, most insurance adjusters do not know enough about jewelry to accurately value this unknown item. After all, they are insurance adjusters, not jewelers. However, most jewelers are not insurance adjusters either. This is where NJR comes in. We understand both insurance and jewelry. We work directly with the person who has lost the jewelry to determine what they had and what it would cost for us to make or find a new one just like it. We quote the insurance adjuster this replacement cost and ensure you are compensated fairly based on your specific coverage.

What is replacement cost?

Most insurance settlements for jewelry are based on replacement cost. This is not what you paid for the item, and maybe not even what it is insured for. Instead, they base payment on what an equivalent item, something that is of like kind and quality will cost the insurance company today. Further, because insurance companies pay to replace a lot of jewelry they expect good pricing and excellent customer service. They prefer to work with jewelers who understand insurance replacements and have proven they take care of their clients, the homeowners who lost the jewelry. So when we replace jewelry we really have two people to satisfy in every sale, you the person who lost the jewelry, and the insurance company who is paying to replace it.

Long story but this explains why NJR has a business model that will work for you as well. To give the insurance companies the best prices we have stripped the frills and built a lean operation. Yet, their demands for keeping customers happy means we must still provide quality. Think about it. We are replacing jewelry for people who bought it elsewhere and almost always paid more. When we replace their jewelry they are much more likely to inspect it closely and have it evaluated. If it is not good, look out. They will complain to the insurance company and demand more. Then, we are out of a job.... Not just that one job, rather all future business with that insurance company. We better do it right every time.

What we can do for you

While we still do insurance replacements, we do more work with regular clients. Same business model, same pricing, same quality, same customer service.

Our business is not that of a traditional retail jeweler with a large inventory to sell. Instead, our business is made to order, custom, and as a broker. This way we are able to tailor each item to exactly what you want. And, we are able to do it for a better price than a traditional retail jeweler.

Made to order meaning we offer jewelry from many of the better jewelry manufacturers where the manufacturer has a selection of jewelry they have designed and photographed and offered to us to sell. They only actually make the item when we tell them how we want it made. This allows us to modify each item to meet exactly what our client wants. It could be minor changes like the choice of metal, white or yellow gold, 14 or 18 karat, platinum, or just the finger size. We can also request design changes to meet your exact needs. If we supply and set the stones or use yours then we can offer an even better price. There are literally thousands of designs available you have never seen in a jewelry store. Many find made to order their best choice.

Custom jewelry has become our largest segment. We work with you either in person, over the phone, or through e-mail. We develop a design and provide detailed realistic three dimensional CAD drawings. Clients say these drawings very realistic and answer all their questions about how the finished jewelry will look. Most find they can get exactly what they want for less than regular jewelers charge for their stock merchandise.

Our brokerage portion is for the more traditional items that you see at retail jewelers. These are diamonds, colored stones, pearls, gold chains, diamond studs, fancy gold earrings, bracelets, pendants, anniversary bands, engagement rings, wedding sets, watches, etc. We provide all of these, only tailored to your specifications. It is not "what you see is what you get". Instead, what you want is what we get. For example, if you wanted a 2ct round G/SI1 GIA diamond, then we would locate the best one at the best price that fits your needs and supply it for a small brokerage fee. Or, we might narrow it down to the best two or three stones and bring them in for a closer look. We quote and supply just the right size, style, and quality of most any traditional jewelry. We are not your source for mass-produced, low quality, price point items. We provide better quality traditional jewelry at excellent prices. Why pay more for a lower quality item of jewelry just because that is what the retail store has in stock?

If you are looking for a particular item of jewelry, tell us what it is. Send pictures of what you have found that is close. We will search our suppliers for the best options. Then, we decide together which design, quality, and price range works best and proceed from there.

Thank you,

Kris Frederickson
